Etsy digital print sizes: which files to include
Short answer: include one file per ratio, not one per size. Five files (2:3, 3:4, 4:5, 11x14 and ISO A sizes) cover almost every standard frame, and each one, made at the largest size, prints any smaller size of the same ratio.
Why ratios, not sizes
An 8 × 10 and a 16 × 20 print have the same shape, a 4:5 ratio. One 16 × 20 file at 300 DPI prints both sharply, because shrinking an image loses nothing. So instead of 20 files, you sell five.
The five files
| Ratio | Prints these sizes | File size at 300 DPI |
|---|---|---|
| 2:3 | 4×6, 8×12, 12×18, 16×24, 20×30, 24×36 in | 7,200 × 10,800 |
| 3:4 | 6×8, 9×12, 12×16, 18×24 in | 5,400 × 7,200 |
| 4:5 | 4×5, 8×10, 16×20 in | 4,800 × 6,000 |
| 11:14 | 11×14 in | 3,300 × 4,200 |
| ISO (1:√2) | A5, A4, A3, A2, A1 | 7,016 × 9,933 |
Etsy's limits
Etsy lets you attach up to 5 files to a digital listing, each up to 20 MB. That is exactly one file per ratio. Large JPGs at 300 DPI can pass 20 MB, so they need sensible compression; check each file's size before uploading.
What this does not cover
5 × 7 and US letter (8.5 × 11) are their own shapes. If your buyers often ask for them, add them in the listing description as sizes to request.
Questions people ask
How many files can I upload to an Etsy digital listing?
Up to 5 files, each up to 20 MB.
Do I need a separate file for 8x10 and 16x20?
No. Both are 4:5. A 16x20 file at 300 DPI prints an 8x10 just as sharply.
