4:5 ratio print sizes: 8×10, 16×20 and more
Short answer: 4:5 covers 4×5, 8×10, 12×15 and 16×20 inches. A file of 4,800 × 6,000 pixels prints all of them at 300 DPI.
All 4:5 sizes
| Print size | In cm | Pixels at 300 DPI |
|---|---|---|
| 4 × 5 in | 10.2 × 12.7 cm | 1,200 × 1,500 |
| 8 × 10 in | 20.3 × 25.4 cm | 2,400 × 3,000 |
| 12 × 15 in | 30.5 × 38.1 cm | 3,600 × 4,500 |
| 16 × 20 in | 40.6 × 50.8 cm | 4,800 × 6,000 |
Why 8 × 10 matters
8 × 10 is one of the most bought frame sizes in the US, and many buyers print at home or at a photo shop at that size. If you include only one file, 4:5 is a safe choice for US buyers.
4:5 and 11 × 14
11 × 14 looks close to 4:5 but is a different shape (11:14 is 0.786, 4:5 is 0.8). Printing a 4:5 file at 11 × 14 crops or stretches it, so 11 × 14 needs its own file.
